The Cantor set, named after the German mathematician Georg Cantor, is formed by omitting the middle part of a line segment divided into 3 and further removing each middle part of every child line segment underneath, which has the length of one-third the parent line. Cantor dust is a two-dimensional derivation of this fractal based on squares. See explanations and illustrations here:
This musical piece, Cantor’s Dust, is created by implementing a Cantor set pattern—in synthetic music software—as an underlying theme. It is enriched with ‘chants and wails’ as an expression of awe and surrender at the contemplation of the infinitude of the Cantor set, in particular, and, in general, the pervasiveness of fractality in Natural Law. Coincidentally, a cantor is a singing official.
From Dust, have we all come, and unto it, we return. Cantor’s Dust, blown into the wind, disintegrates infinitely across the particulate hierarchy of reality. Can your mind contain the Dust?
